Office Refit - Newstead
In February 2022, the International Quarterback (IQ) office experienced significant flood damage due to heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions in Brisbane. This necessitated a full office refit. All internal doors, carpet, tiles, kitchen appliances, hot water system and cabinetry, power outlets and plaster board below 1,200 high were removed. As part of this refit, IQ wanted to take the opportunity to add a new meeting room that could accommodate small video conferencing meetings, while also updating the overall style to reflect their premium, trusted brand. While happy to retain much of the current layout, enhancements to the reception area, boardroom acoustics and a more functional desk layout in the staff offices was required. Additionally, the proposed design needed to be as flood resilient as possible, whilst remaining cost-effective.

A Contemporary Industrial design aesthetic was chosen incorporating natural timbers, leather and copper accents to add an extra layer of warmth and depth to the office space. Some of the flood resilient measures included tile floors with epoxy grout, no built in cabinetry under 1200 high (apart from the kitchen), free standing dishwasher for easy removal, Corian solid surface bench top with integrated sink, supported by steel frame, independent of cabinetry. Corian® Solid Surface is repairable, stain resistant and germ and virus resistant, therefore, even if it is submerged in flood water, no nasty contaminants will penetrate the surface / substrate. Fibre cement sheeting on new lower section of all walls; all GPO’s, IT points and hot water system raised above 1200 high. The timber batten feature wall in reception and boardroom constructed of removable solid timber battens and broken into 3 horizontal sections with a slightly different stain in the centre section. This ensures that if the battens do need to be removed and re-stained in the event of a flood, matching the exact stain of the top/middle section will not be required.
